Talking to shoppers in the High Street Tim found that the shortage of affordable housing was a key issue uppermost in their minds.

We asked people to support our petition aimed at getting more rapid action on house building.
The response was tremendous with hundreds of people ready to sign up to the proposals, in only one two hour period.

Our petition on affordable housing
We, the undersigned, want our council to find the land and development partners to deliver decent homes which families and single people with annual incomes of less than £40,000 can realistically afford to live in. The lack of decent, affordable homes is the single biggest issue that blights our communities and condemns whole sections of the population in Guildford, Cranleigh and the surrounding villages to a low quality of life.

We urge our council:
1. To prioritise home building for the ordinary working people of our borough;
2. To make the fullest use of the government planning changes which can make land available for low cost, decent homes;
3. To make the fullest use of the government funding available to support the development of low cost, decent homes; and
4. To make the fullest use of government legislation to provide secure

Tim Shand intends to put the petition to the Housing Minister pressing for the government to make local councils move faster to increase the amount affordable housing.
